    The Baker’s Values

At the heart of The Baker are her core principles that guide every cake she creates and every customer she serves.

    1

    Quality Ingredients

The final product is only as good as the ingredients used as to why The Baker puts such emphasis on using only the freshest ingredients. All The Bakers cakes are made fresh; never frozen, and are made with all “real” ingredients - no imitation here, and definitely butter ONLY.

    2

    Consistency

Whether baking for her family or for customers, consistency in results is high on her list of priorities. This comes from a combination of precision, technique, and understanding the process, ensuring that a favorite recipe turns out perfect every time.

    3

    Presentation

The visual appeal of cakes is always essential. Thoughtful and artistic presentation and decoration enhance the overall appearance and reflect the care and effort put into each custom cake creation.

    4

    Creativity

Experimenting with flavors, textures, and decorations allows The Baker to express her artistic side and develop unique creations.

    THE BAKER

    Maria Pelton

    Custom Cake Creator

Maria has a love for creating sweet treats that spans almost four decades. Her passion and artistic creativity in her craft can’t go unnoticed, as every cake she creates is a true masterpiece. She puts such time, attention and love into every cake. This passion stemmed from her youth. When Maria was growing up every year her mom would always make her and her siblings birthday cake from scratch; always asking them what they would like for their cake, and always receiving the same response from each of them. Maria’s was always a vanilla sponge cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. Her mom put such love into every birthday cake she ever made; and Maria could see and taste it. And well, Maria can’t help but to do the same - it’s what she knows.

    The Baker’s Journey

    1986

It all began in my mom’s kitchen-

    THE BEGINNING

I can’t say as I recall specifically what sparked me to grab a Betty Crocker cookbook from my mom’s shelf of cookbooks in the kitchen - perhaps it was my love for sweet treats. But I opened it and made chocolate chip cookies. And before I knew it I was making pies, cakes, whatever recipe I came across that sparked my interest. My family was always excited as they reaped the benefits of whatever I created that day. Over the years I’ve asked my mom if she was ever nervous about me starting a fire in the oven or on the stove as at the time I was only 9 years old; and often my parents weren’t home as they were running their business; a local General Store. Her response; “I can’t say that I was; you always looked like you knew exactly what you were doing.”

    1995

    High School Graduation-

    LEARNING & GROWTH

As I was preparing to graduate from high school and conversations amongst friends often surrounded what was coming next; was it college, trade school, the work force. I honestly hadn’t put a lot of thought into it until one day I thought…”I’ve always loved baking - maybe I should go to culinary school.” Well, that’s exactly what I did! I was accepted and attended the New England Culinary Institute in Essex Junction, VT where my passion for baking continued.

    1997

Graduating With An Associates Degree In Culinary Arts-

    PUT THOSE SKILLS TO USE

After college I continued to evolve in the world of culinary arts; working at several restaurants in Vermont before traveling to Washington DC where I was able to expand my craft in the world of sweets that much more; working in several well-renowned restaurants as an assistant pastry chef and pastry chef in the DC metropolitan area.

    2020

    The Vision Became My Reality-

    BUSINESS IS OPEN

I always had a vision of having my own baking business, but not a brick-and-mortar shop; something a little different. It just so happened that I had an almost empty (besides a washer and dryer) room in my house that I began envisioning as a baking kitchen. Well, after some time patience, work and vision that room was transformed into what is now The Baker’s kitchen where all of my creations come to life.
